Specialising in Specialty Malts

Along with floor malting, we have chosen to home in on, and be specialists in, roasted and crystal malts. There are 3 reasons for this.

Breweries and Distilleries needs them

In all my travels to breweries, the majority of specialty malts being used come from overseas. Yes, they are excellent products. But wouldn’t everyone prefer to use an Australian product instead?

In all my time in distilleries, there are only a precious few that have discovered the benefits of including roasted malts or crystal malts in their mash bills. And these distilleries are winning Australian and international gold medals. More to come on this.

We love them

It’s not all about us, but it’s well known that South Australians love a pint of dark beer. At the Beer and BBQ festival, you can’t swing a cat without hitting a someone with a Porter or Stout in their hand. As such, we’d love to be a part of the amazing dark beers being produced across the country.

It’s in our wheelhouse

We’re roasting experts. Nenad, our savant roaster, was roasting malt and barley before I was legally drinking beer. And in his time, he has roasted thousands of batches of malt and oak.

Roasting malt is part science, but mostly art. Depending on the product, we can take malt to within a whisker of turning that malt into carbon. When you are roasting a 2 tonne batch, you need experience and a cool head.
